Sammanfattning
Introduction: This study describes the composition and activity of Danish drug committees in both the primary and secondary health care sectors. Method: A questionnaire was sent to the chairmen of all Danish drug committees and to drug consultants in all Danish counties. Results: The municipality of Frederiksberg and 12 of 14 counties responded. Five of the 14 counties did have a drug committee, but a drug formulary was available in only one. In the secondary sector, 30 committees were identified; 27 of these responded. In all, 203 persons were active in the committees; 60% were medical doctors. The committees held meetings from two to six times a year, and a drug formulary was available in the majority (23/25) of the committees. Neither the primary nor the secondary health care sector showed interest in a national drug committee, but the majority of drug consultants in the counties stated that they could use a national drug formulary as guidance. Discussion: This study shows a great difference between the activities of drug committees in the primary and secondary health care sectors in Denmark. It is doubtful that a drug committee system will ever be established in the primary sector. In general, the secondary-sector committees are active, but it will be important to consider the possibility of national cooperation in a central drug committee.
