Sammanfattning
Introduction: Macroplastique is a widely used bulking agent for the treatment of stress incontinence. The aim of the present study was to describe our experiences with the treatment. Materials and methods: A total of 53 women with urodyn-amic proven stress urinary incontinence unfit for (76%) or refusing (24%) conventional anti-incontinence surgery were included in the study. The women were assessed 3 months postoperatively in the clinic and by telephone interview 5-46 months after the injection. Results: At the 3-month follow-up, 23% of the women felt cured and 58% felt improved. At the interview 5-46 months (average 21 months) postoperatively, 21% felt cured and 47% felt improved. 28% were injected twice. No serious compli-cations were found. Conclusion: Urethral injection is an acceptable treatment for women unfit for or refusing conventional anti-incontinence surgery.
