Sammanfattning
A meta-analysis published in 1997 concluded that excision was the most effective treatment but that the complication rate was higher and postoperative pain greater than after less invasive procedures such as rubber band ligation, infrared coagulation and sclerotherapy. As a new method, stapled haemorrhoidectomy, for treatment of grade 3 and 4 haemorrhoids has been developed, it was considered relevant to evaluate randomized trials of surgical haemorrhoid treatment published since 1997. A total of 23 randomized trials has been published, of which 10 included the stapling technique. The conclusions of the previous meta-analysis are still valid, however: stapled haemorrhoidectomy resulted in the same cure rate as excision but was followed by significantly less pain.
