Sammanfattning
Aim: The aim is to describe the
nurses’ experiences with and
readjustment to new clinical
practice within accelerated recovery
programs (ARP) for benign
hysterectomy.
Methods: The study is prospective
and descriptive using qualitative
methods (before and after implementation
of ARP), two groupinterviews
and four individual in
depth interviews from February
to November 2001.
Results: The central focus on
information creates special
demands mowing away from
somatic care to a more consultative
role. The nurse’s experiences
with the ARP are generally positive
and the changes can be seen
as part of the nurses’ adoption
process. A new standard care
plan is working as a practical
tool to ensure a uniform and optimal
information and treatment.
However, the study shows that the
standard care plan with its checklist
has reduced individual communication
about the patient.
Conclusion: The nurse’s experiences
with the new clinical practice
in ARP in relation to abdominal
hysterectomy shows, that
communication in this practice
requires special attention. It is
therefore necessary to demand
high quality to the standard care
plan used in accelerated recovery
regime and in the future to develop
communicative ways to
secure the psychological care in
gynaecological nursing.
