Sammanfattning
The relationships between mastering,
health distress and life satisfaction
have a large research and
practical interest value. In this
investigation the degree of coping
was measured with Sense of
Coherence (SOC), health distress
with Ursins Health Index (UHI)
and life satisfaction with a simple
question. The results showed that
sence of coherence increased
with age. The relationships between
sense of coherence/ health
distress and sence of coherence/
life satisfaction were significant.
The aged with a high sense of
coherence react slightly to health
distress when asked how satisfied
they were with their lives. However,
for those with a low sense of
coherence, the differences in
appraisal were dependent on
health distress. In addition, it
demonstrated that elderly men
had a significant lower life satisfaction
than elderly women.
However men with high sense of
coherence and much health distress
were most satisfied. These
results underline the difference
among the elderly, the potential
for personal development during
the final phase of life and that differential
care should be related to
gender. This investigation highlights
the salutogenic orientation
of Antonovsky, and is supporting
the great impact of sence of coherence
for managing health distress.
