Sammanfattning

Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the cause of a congenital infection which can lead to birth defects. It is an opportunistic infection that is associated with serious illness and can cause various dermatological disorders under immunosuppressed conditions. Non-immunosuppressed individuals infected with CMV are most typically subclinical and asymptomatic. We describe two cases in which adult non-immunocompromised patients with a serologically verified CMV infection developed either a flare-up of their pre-existing atopic dermatitis or a viral rash. The causative infection was suspected due to transiently elevated ASAT and alkaline phosphatase levels, and the virally induced skin disease waned in parallel with the resolution of the CMV infection.
