Sammanfattning
We report on an outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection which originated among patients with liver disease. The epidemic strain was detected in 18 patients, of whom eight had cirrhosis, and in one health care worker. Apart from one case, all had infections due to the strain: 10 cases of wound infection and 5 cases of bacteraemia. Despite rigorous isolation precautions, the infection spread to five departments in the hospital and to two other hospitals.
