Sammanfattning
Introduction: The purpose of our investigation was to monitor the quality of treatment of recurrent corneal erosion in the Department of Ophthalmology at Aarhus University Hospital. Materials and methods: Patients operated on with Excimer Laser without prior epithelial abrasion in 1999, 2000 and 2001 were sent a questionnaire asking about the effect of the treatment. 96 questionnaires were sent out; 74 (77%) were returned. Results: 79% of the patients were either very satisfied or satisfied with the treatment, 89% had had none or fewer episodes of symptoms after the operation and 87% felt that their vision was unchanged or better. There were no differences between the efficacy of efficacy for spontaneus erosion and that for patients with a history of prior trauma. Conclusion: Excimer Laser without prior epithelial abrasion is a effective and fast technique for treating recurrent corneal erosions. It inflicts minimal discomfort on the patient and has a low risk of serious complications.
