Sammanfattning
We present a case report of schwannoma of the facial nerve in which a CT scan, but not a standard MR scan for acoustic schwannoma, provided the diagnosis. A woman presented with progressive facial palsy. There was no history of hearing loss or dizziness, otomicroscopy was normal, there was facial palsy and an audiogram showed hearing loss. Brainstem audiometry was pathological. A retrocochlear affection was suspected. The MR scan was normal, but examination suggested intratemporal pathology. A CT scan without contrast revealed a tumour of the facial nerve. We conclude that the choice of radiological method is very important.
