Sammanfattning
Mycoplasma hominis was isolated from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a 13-day-old premature baby. CSF from five following ventricular taps done to relieve hydrocephalus all grew M. hominis. Due to the slow growth of this microorganism, treatment was delayed. When treatment with ciprofloxacin was started, the microorganism disappeared. The low spinal glucose level increased, and the slightly increased C-reactive protein level normalised. The hydrocephalus was judged to have been caused by the M. hominis meningitis. This article also discusses the significance of M. hominis infections in children in general.
