Perioperativ vaeskebehandling. En spörgeskemaundersögelse
Sammanfattning
Introduction: Intraoperative fluid administration is inconsistent due to limited knowledge of the physiological and clinical effects of various fluid substitution regimens. Furthermore, the area is characterized by insufficient focus and knowledge among both surgeons and anaesthetists. The purpose of this investigation was to determine a number of parameters of importance to perioperative fluid management. Materials and methods: An anonymous questionnaire was mailed to all surgeons and anaesthetists in Denmark. Of the 1,842 doctors to whom it was mailed, 546 replies (30%) were received. Results: The respondents' answers showed that knowledge about perioperative fluid management is limited, that further education is warranted, and that there is a general shortage of guidelines for perioperative fluid management. Discussion: Since perioperative fluid management is of importance to postoperative outcome, it is important that both surgeons and anaesthetists be knowledgeable about it. We therefore recommend that the medical faculties and national scientific societies engage in a nationwide educational program. Every hospital department should have clear guidelines for perioperative fluid management, and we emphasize that the responsibility to obtain adequate knowledge includes individual doctors themselves.
