Sammanfattning
The aim of this study was to improve wound care of donor sites after harvesting of split skin grafts. Studies of literature have shown that wound coverage with calcium alginate promotes a fast healing with minimum pain.
In our department of plastic surgery (department Z, Århus Sygehus) we therefore changed the clinical guidelines of donor site coverage to two layers of calcium alginate covered with a semi permeable adhesive dressing (Stabilon). The dressing is removed after eight days.
Fifty-five patients were included in the survey. 86 per cent (47 patients) had a VAS score of 3 or less on the postoperative day two. In 82 per cent (45 patients) the donor site area had healed more than 90 per cent on the postoperative day eight.
The outcomes of the survey were so excellent, that the clinical recommendations are implemented as ward standard.
