Sammanfattning
The aim of this study is to explore
the meaning of the concept of
meaning of life. The theoretical
perspective is based on Eriksson’s
caring theory (1984–2001) referring
to the core consisting of
caring for the suffering patient,
and on the philosophical thinking
of Frankl (10, 11). The method
used is semantic meaning analysis
of the concepts involved (3,
13, 21, 22). The meaning of the
concept of life, studied by Palmgren
(17), is here connected to
the meaning of the concept of
meaning described in the article.
The results of this study leads to
the following conclusions on
meaning of life:
1. The meaning of life is based on
the way of living one’s life.
2. Motion and energy give substance
and direction and also
strength and ability to initiate
and fulfil purposeful thoughts and
deeds.
3. The substance of meaning of
life is individual.
4. The person must by herself
decide to whom, to what and for
what she is responsible.
5. A belief in a promise can have
meaning as a desire of something
beyond this earthly life.
