Sammanfattning
Every patient has the right to consistent, high quality treatment and care, regardless of their ethnic origins. This is the philosophy of the European Migrant Friendly Hospitals project.
Kolding Hospital, represented by its children's department, has participated in the European project as a Danish pilot hospital. With the focus on clinical communication, the department has, inter alia, introduced interpreting over the telephone using Soundstation. By means of interviews and questionnaires, the quality of interpretation was monitored before and after implementation of the new method. The survey revealed a marked reduction in the involvement of family and friends in the interpretation process. The staff found that it became easier to get hold of interpreters, and about a third of them found that their working situation improved following implementation of the action plan. European collaboration has also resulted in the formulation of a number of recommendations, which are described in the Amsterdam Declaration.
