Sammanfattning
Patient satisfaction surveys were carried out at Odense University Hospital in 2005 on the basis of the assumption that patients' statement and experiences can form the basis for quality development.
Questionnaires consisting of 16 open and closed questions were given to 1500 patients. The response rate was 72.
The survey shows that 87 per cent of the patients remember their stay on the recovery ward in part or in full. For this reason, it is important to include the perspective of the patient if one wants to develop and improve post-operative care and treatment.
85 per cent of patients were satisfied or extremely satisfied with the recovery process. The conclusion is that rapid, efficient and individual care and treatment impact on patient satisfaction, as do the human aspects in the form of attention, care and dialogue, with patients' desires and needs taken seriously.
Since the procedures on the recovery ward constitute a part of the treatment as a whole - albeit a minor one - it is important to involve the anaesthesia, surgical and general wards in the improvement of post-operative care.
