Sammanfattning

Lifeworld is changed both by aging and migration, which can affect health. Narratives of the elderly immigrants can enlighten us about how life has been for them, what has been important and how they have managed different life situations before migration. This knowledge can guide us for understanding the elderly immigrants when they seek care. The purpose of the study was to describe health, suffering and wellbeing in relation to the phenomenon life narratives of the elderly persons from Bosnia who arrived to Sweden as refugees. Topic- centred narratives with a qualitative approach is used. Two men and two women were interviewed. The analysis showed that health and wellbeing were experienced when they felt comfort and security amongst their kinsmen in Bosnia. Wellbeing and health deteriorated when they became refugees in Sweden because they did not know the language or the culture, did not recognize the environment and had to abandon many of their Bosnian customs and traditions. This was experienced as suffering.
