An increasing number of adult patients are treated by the orthodontist. A major part of the patients are afflicted with secondary malocclusions as a result of an ongoing degeneration leading to loss of teeth and periodontium. An important issue for the dentist is to prevent this development. Standardized photos can be used to follow a development. Rehabilitation should be done as a team-work, and the level of information determines the benefit the different educational dental institutions can obtain. The inclusion of orthodontics in a re-habilitation can ensure that the best long-term prognosis for the remaining teeth by introducing a generation of a better basis for both implants and fixed prosthetics.
