Sammanfattning

The Intellectual Function Assessment (IFA) method involves the use of a battery of three booklets, each consisting of 75 items divided into eight subtests. The IFA was administered to two groups, together consisting of 90 braindamaged patients, and to a third group consisting of 99 nonclinical persons. Battery homogeneity was estimated with Cronbach's alpha-coefficient to be between 0.83 and 0.88. Interobserver reliability was 0.70 or better. Construct validity was estimated by identifying the cut-off scores separating the non-clinical persons from the brain-damaged patients. The mean difference between these two groups was statistically significant (P<0.001). The concurrent validity of the IFA-battery subtests is indicated by their significant correlations with four factors separated from a psychometric test battery of 15 subtests. The differences between the three alternative versions of the IFA means were small and insignificant. The result indicated that the IFA method has acceptable reliability and validity when used with patients suffering from cerebrovascular diseases and brain trauma damage.
