Sammanfattning
The Nordic countries receive the largest number of adopted children per capita from abroad. Many of the children have lived prior to adoption in poor social, hygienic and nutritional conditions and therefore risk developing short- and long-term health problems.
Nordic research shows that in some respects, and during periods of their lives, the adopted children experience certain special problems and that a small number of them develop serious problems. Post Adoptive Services is an overall concept relating to the support and guidance made available by a community to the adopted children and their families after adoption. The North Jutland Adoption Forum is a voluntary, cross-disciplinary network of people who want to support adoptive families and communicate knowledge of adoption to members of professions who have contact with adoptive families. Practically all adoptive families come into contact with health visitors. However, not every health visitor can be expected to have exhaustive knowledge of the special problems that can affect adopted children and their families. They are therefore able to seek knowledge and guidance from the network.
