Sammanfattning
Children are affected when a parent is mentally ill. Legislation implies that
children’s need for information, advice and support has to be observed by
health care staff. This article presents a study from 2013 and 2014 that used
a patient register in adult psychiatry in Region Skåne in order to investigate
how the law was followed in everyday care. Few interventions were conducted
when children had been registered. A follow-up showed a small increase
of the amount of patients with registered children in 2016, but far from all
children were registered. A survey with staff educated in child-focused interventions
showed that a majority had conducted few interventions in 2016.
A family-focused way of working should be established in adult psychiatry.
