Sammanfattning
Ward sisters find it quite challenging to have to navigate their way among various management roles. At the same time, pressure of work also means that their working and private lives have a tendency to merge into one.
Collegial coaching is one tool ward sisters can make use of if they want to develop a more professional approach to their own management. Coaching is a form of dialogue in which one person helps and inspires another to reflect on and learn from his/her experiences.
The article defines coaching in a nursing context, and two ward sisters tell readers of their experiences with collegial coaching and the significance it has had form them in their working lives. Among the effects coaching has helped them achieve are: Prevention of stress and burn-out, reducing the feeling of loneliness in their work, strengthening their professional network in the workplace and with it, stronger relations with their colleagues. Overall, coaching enabled them to focus on their own and colleagues' professional development instead of battling to 'keep the propeller in the water' when it came to day-to-day operations.
