Supervisors need continuous
reflection to exceed their competence.
This might occur by supervising
supervisors. The purpose
of this study is to define and deepen
the term supervising supervisors,
and suggest a model for
how to organise the activity
supervising supervisors. A literature
study, combined with the authors`
experiences on supervision,
make the basis for a discussion
and a model for supervising
supervisors. Two educational
models concerning reflection on
practical work are presented. A
definition of the notion supervising
supervisors. Subjects in the
discussion are: supervision and
supervising of supervisors as an
integrated part of an organization,
how to organize supervising
of supervisors, focus in supervising
supervisors, the importance
of the relation, methods and how
to supervise supervisors, the
balance between support and
challenge and evaluation. Finally
a model describing frequency and
continuity in supervising supervisors
as a cooperation and dialogue
between educational institutions
and the arena of nursing
practice is suggested.
