Sammanfattning
Emotions can be described as impulses to act and play a crucial role in relation to motivation or the lack of same. It is therefore important that the emotional aspect is not a blind partner, but a visible and equal player to whom one can relate and work constructively with.
"Patient for a day" is a workshop which gives staff the opportunity to experience in emotional terms what it means to be a patient on their own ward and the article describes experiences from such a workshop held for the staff of the paediatric wards at Sønderborg and Kolding hospitals.
Doctors, nurses, psychologists and others assumed the role of staff, patients and relatives on their own wards and experienced how all experiences were surprisingly equal. We saw everything, and sensed everything that happened. The session lasted three hours and was rounded off with a common discussion of the experiences of the staff and a brainstorming session over what could be done to ensure that patients admitted to our wards were not exposed to similar unfortunate experiences.
