Sammanfattning

Lymfogranuloma venerum (LGV), a subtype of Chlamydia trachomatis, has in recent years become more common among men who have sex with men (MSM). Sporadic imported cases of LGV occurred in Sweden in the past but in 2007 we experienced the first outbreak of LGV among MSM with domestic spread in two metropolitan areas. Among the 15 patients diagnosed all except one were symtomatic (proctitis and/ or genital ulcer) and 73% were HIV positive. Effective therapy for LGV requires doxycycline at higher dosage and for a longer period than used to treat non-LGV-chlamydia. In many of the Swedish cases the diagnosis of LGV and treatment was delayed. We would therefore like to higlight the increased incidence of LGV in MSM and to recommend that LGV be included in the differential diagnosis in MSM who present with proctitis or genital ulcers and to consider their referral to an STD-clinic.
