Sammanfattning
Objectives: To evaluate a prehospital triage method for trauma patients, and to study specificity and sensitivity in METTS-T (medical emergency triage and treatment system- trauma). Methods: 520 traumapatients were admitted by the prehospital organisation to the emergency department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital during 1/1 and 30/6 2007. Those were divided into to different trauma team activation levels according to prehospital vital signs, injuries and mechanisms in the METTS-T algorithm. Results: There was a close relationship between trauma level and outcome regarding mean length of stay, intensive care, vital signs and mortality. There was a specificity of 85% and overtriage of 15%, while the sensitivity was >99% and undertriage <1%. Conclusion: The triage tool in METTS-T is sensitive method with high specificity and reduce the full trauma team activation by 57%.
