Sammanfattning
Lungtransplantation is now accepted as a last measure treatment for end-stage pulmonary disease. In Sweden this procedure was started in 1990 at the University Hospitals in Lund and Gothenburg, respectively. Up until the end of 2007, a total of 512 patients have been transplanted. The distribution of preoperative diagnosis is similar to that reported internationally (ISHLT).
The one-year survival is 85 %, 5 year survival is 66% and at 10 year 52%, a very good result when compared to international figures (ISHLT). An explanation could be a thorough long-term follow-up program and possibly also a genetic homogeneity in the population. We have a better survival for bilateral lungtransplantation versus single lung, and worse for patients above 60 years of age, both findings comparable to international results.
