Sammanfattning
Studies indicate that medical courses have a highly questionable effect when it comes to developing students' values, attitudes and ethics-related skills in the desired direction. Pedagogic research reveals that real-life situations under the guidance of a supervisor are the best way of training students' skills. The starting point for this article is the view that aspects related to medical ethics should be brought up in discussions of real cases and situations medical students encounter in their clinical work in order to realise the objectives of the education in ethics. Clinicians and/or supervisors therefore need to analyse and discuss ethical issues and the ethical dimensions of the medical profession with students in a professional manner. They also need to remember that they actually teach ethics through their behaviour and attitudes and that the behaviour that is demonstrated cannot always be regarded as exemplary. The students' ability to analyse and discuss ethical questions and deal with patients can and should be evaluated.
