Sammanfattning
Determination of antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi can be of additional value in the diagnosis of Lyme disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the production of antibodies in a defined group of patients. The study analysed antibodies in the serum of a group of 80 patients with erythema migrans from Vestfold county in Norway, collected from July to September 2007. As control, serum from 80 healthy blood donors was used. For the detection of antibodies, Enzygnost Lyme link VlsE/IgG and Enzygnost Borreliosis IgM, Serion ELISA classic Borrelia burgdorferi IgG and IgM, Premier Human Lyme IgG/IgM Meridian Bioscience, Immunetics C6 Lyme IgG/IgM ELISA kit, Mikrogen recomWell IgG and IgM, and recombinant Blot Borrelia IgG and IgM from Mikrogen were used. Enzygnost and RecomWell seem to be the most suitable methods for screening, while Immunetics C6 Lyme IgG/IgM ELISA kit may be able to replace Western blot in confirming positive ELISA results. Due to the large heterogenicity of circulating strains in individual regions of Europe there is an indication for the addition of recombinant antigens from the main genospecies in ELISA tests. Recombinant Western blot with in vivo antigens may be an important diagnostic support in patients suspected of having Lyme borreliosis.
