Sammanfattning
The Danish Council for Ethics in Nursing (Sygeplejeetisk Råd) has just celebrated its 20th anniversary, and in association with this has focused on ethical reflection in a nursing context. Over the years, many nurses have consulted the Council for Ethics in Nursing for advice and guidance. The article describes three such consultations and the responses given by the Council for Ethics in Nursing. A review of the Council's work has shown that the ethical dilemmas, in respect of which nurses have consulted them, have largely concerned the boundary between care and assault in relation to patients' self-determination, or the conflict between solidarity to ones workplace and colleagues on the one hand, and the patient on the other. The article suggests that ethical discussions in clinical practice can promote professional understanding - to the benefit of both patients and staff.
