Sammanfattning

Talking in a mobile phone during driving is a known risk factor for traffic crashes. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Örnsköldsvik Sweden were 1894 randomly selected drivers (1378 males and 516 females) was studied for their mobile phone use during driving. The study result shows that 4-5 % of the males and 2 % of the females spoke in the phone during driving. The use of safety belt was lower for both genders in the phone speaking driver group, compared to the non-speaking driver group. Technical developers need to intensify their effort to develop new technology which fulfills human needs for these services during driving, and at the same time, develop technology that corrects for human cognitive limitations in multi-tasking. Meanwhile should the Swedish legislators limit the mobile phone use during driving by law.
