Riskfaktorkontrollen vid benartärsjukdom kan bli bättre. Registerstudie av sekundärprofylaktisk medicinsk behandling
Sammanfattning
Risk factors for development of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) are the same as for atherosclerotic coronary or precerebral disease, and patients with PAD have a high prevalence of concomitant atherosclerotic disease in coronary and precerebral arteries. However, these patients are still less likely to receive appropriate secondary prophylactic treatment than patients with coronary artery disease. We evaluated pharmacological treatment, lipid levels, blood pressures (BP), and smoking habits one month postoperatively in 515 patients (age 71±12 years, 282 [55%] men) undergoing open or endovascular surgical interventions for PAD. We found that 89% of patients received statins and 97% received either platelet aggregation inhibitors or anticoagulants at one month follow up. BP was 144±21/76±11 mmHg, target systolic BP <140 mmHg was achieved in 266 (52%) patients, and target diastolic BP <90 mmHg in 477 (93%) patients. The proportion of active smokers had been reduced from 41% preoperatively to 24% at one month follow-up. We need a better follow-up of pharmacological treatment of risk factors in all PAD patients.
