Sammanfattning
Regulations on adverse event and reaction reports associated with transfusion of blood components and full traceability of blood components from donor to recipient is implemented following regulations issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden. Adverse event and reaction reporting systems in some other EC countries also require information on the clinical indication and if national/local guidelines have been followed. Relevant laboratory test results before and after the transfusion must also be reported. Such information facilitates audits of blood components therapy. Today, we lack such procedures in Sweden. Now is the time for us to take the next step to improve patient safety and blood component use in Sweden with introduction of transfusion guidelines and audits through transfusion committees.
