Sammanfattning
Demands of performance, engagement and endurance are broadly the same in working life as in elite sports. The ability of athletes to sustain their performance development and a high engagement depends mainly on their psycho-physiological recovery process and its capacity to eliminate fatigue and restore vigour. While athletes are trained to recognize their recovery needs and how these can be met, persons in working life often respond to increased demands by down-sizing their recovery and sleep. If a long-term engagement in work is to be possible, signs of dysfunctional recovery must be identified at an early stage, and workplaces should be encouraged to make room for a dynamic balance between load and rest.
