Several studies have shown that medical doctors experience the work with sick listing as problematic. The Västerbotten model supports collaboration and implies implementation of rehabilitation coordinators and insurance medicine doctors in the process. An inquiry has been performed among the medical doctors within the primary health care to evaluate the effects of the model in the Västerbotten County, Sweden. Positive effects of this model were more frequent consultations between colleagues and also other members of the staff, and increased internal team collaboration and improved external collaboration, mainly due to the achievement of the rehabilitation coordinators. The medical doctors valued not having the whole burden of sickness certification alone, and they consid-ered the teamwork to give a better control over each case and created better basis for their assessments. There still remain several work tasks of the sick listing process that are problematic.
