Sammanfattning

A baselinestudy on injection drug users in Stockholm County, of whom 720 had injected narcotics during the last 12 months, was conducted 2007/2008. Participants were contacted through active case finding. They were interviewed about their social situation, drug abuse, injection- and sexual habits and were tested for HIV, HBV, HCV and other infections. Median age was 40 years, 75 % were men. Drug abuse started in early teens, most often with cannabis. It took four years (median) until they started to inject narcotics. 82 % were infected with HCV, 7 % with HIV. Risk behaviour was common both regarding injection- and sexual habits. 171 of the active injecting drug users participated in Methadone/Subutex programs. There was no consistent relation between degree of risk behaviour and extent of infection, with the exception of HCV/parafernalia. Those who knew their HIV status reported lower risk behaviour.
