Sammanfattning
Globally tuberculosis is one of the most important infectious diseases. The World Health Organization estimates that about one third of the world population has latent tuberculosis. In Sweden the incidence of tuberculosis is low but growing due to increase among foreign-born people. In north-eastern Skane, a region in southern Sweden, tuberculosis screening among all foreign-born pregnant women has been performed for some years using questionnaires on symptoms, an IGRA-test (QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube assay) and when relevant chest X-ray and microbiology. In 2011 among 208 women from eastern Europe and non-European countries no one had active disease. 4,5% of the women had latent tuberculosis. This is a surprisingly small part. Possible explanations to the outcome are discussed in the article. From 2012 the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare recommends screening of pregnant women from regions with incidence >100/100 000 or with suspicion of earlier exposition.
