Are the participants in a short term prison training program feeling that the program gives them
an opportunity to master their addiction problems better than earlier? In this article, I am studying the
effects of a pilot project which was conducted in two Norwegian prisons. The article is based upon
interviews with a total of 16 participants. Data show that the inmates as a result of the program
increased their motivation and achieved better tools in order to cope with their addiction problem. The
conclusion is therefore that such a program could be a first step on a road where inmates with
addiction problems, strengthens their ability to cope with their challenges
