Sammanfattning
At Odense University Hospital (OUH), pressure ulcers due to surgery are prevented by following
a number of recommendations.
A pilot study was conducted at OUH with a view to gaining insights into the prevalence of pressure
lesions/ulcers acquired due to surgery. The study was conducted in two parts and comprised pre-
and post-operative skin screening, assessment of the patient’s risk of developing pressure ulcers,
recording of the duration of surgical procedure, patient positioning method and any preventive
measures. In addition, positioning methods were observed, and a sensor sheet was used for
intraoperative observation of patients with a view to instigating preventive measures during surgery.
The study resulted in a series of recommendations which have been adopted in interdisciplinary
clinical care instructions for OUH. The implementation of these recommendations is expected to
reduce the incidence of pressure lesions/ulcers due to surgery and hence to prevent patient distress
and discomfort.
