Sammanfattning
The article describes how nurses, in cooperation with hospital managers, development and
education officers at the general hospitals of Roskilde and Køge, undertook a project to boost
research and development as integrated and valued dimensions of clinical nursing practice on an
equal standing with patient care, treatment and education.
The focus is and has been to develop and support a patient-oriented research, development and
innovation culture while taking into account the fact that research is a relatively new phenomenon
within nursing and other professions based on medium-cycle higher education. While the mission is
continuous, the situation is currently such that nurses are well on the way to achieving stronger
standing by virtue of a well-defined strategy, education, career paths and management priorities.
