Sammanfattning
The purpose of this study was to investigate how adolescents with ADHD (Attention deficit /
hyperactivity disorder) experience their everyday lives. Twelve youngsters, six boys and six girls,
aged 15-17, were interviewed about their experience of living with ADHD. Three-fourths of the
adolescents were diagnosed during middle school, aged 14-16 years old. All the adolescents had
been helped by medication regarding the core symptoms of ADHD, and the majority could
concentrate better in school. Some of the adolescents experienced negative personality changes due
to the medicine. Adolescents socialized with their friends and had boyfriend / girlfriend relationships.
The support from the mother was central in life. The support in primary school ranged from having an
assistant to almost no support at all; moreover, for several of the adolescents, the support declined
in secondary school. The adolescents had a low degree of endurance when they were engaged in
recreational activities. Some of the adolescents had concerns about getting their driver’s license.
They had plans for an adult life with work and family.
