Sammanfattning

The study is part of an ongoing research project focusing on coping and dignity within mental health and substance abuse care in a Norwegian municipality. The research addresses the meaning of the concepts «coping» and «dignity», as understood by patients, carers and professionals. The study has an explorative, descriptive and interpretive design using focus group interviews. The findings are: (a) a concept of class, (b) a concept of relation, (c) a concept of recovery, (d) a concept of everyday life and (e) a concept of normality. The conclusion underlines that the concepts will primarily develop content in practical and interpersonal situations.
