Sammanfattning
The diagnose Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in medicine was established in
1988. The author noted, however, already in 1958 a fatigue syndrome in
patients who had undergone the Asian flu. Fell ill himself and developed a
serious fatigue. Self-attempts led to treatment with the staphylococcus vaccine
Staphypan. Systematic research with the vaccine was started 1992.
Two double-blind studies gave evidence for therapeutic effect. Unfortunately
the vaccine was withdrawn from the market in 2005. Overall, support for
the somatogenesis in ME/CFS is significant. Previously it was assumed that
the illness was psychosomatic. Disturbance of the patients´ immune system
is a hypothesis that is supported from many quarters.Together with Jonas
Blomberg we have shown that in ME/CFS there could be an autoimmunity directed
against a mitochondrial protein. In studies of cerebrospinal fluid from
patients with ME/CFS, we have seen low vitamin B12 levels while the levels
of homocysteine is high suggesting an intracerebral deficiency of the one
carbon metabolism. Based on these findings treatment with vitamin B12 in
higher doses than those usually used are tested.
