Sammanfattning
This literature review investigates the differences in cross-modality in early and late blind individuals. Studies have shown that plasticity in early and late blind subjects differ both quantitatively and qualitatively. Early blind subjects exhibit a higher degree of cross-modality due to the fact that blindness has occurred while the visual system is still developing and neuronal density is high. Late blind subjects seem to have less cross-modality, which is also different in nature. The research on blind individuals reviewed in this paper demonstrates the human brain’s ability to adjust to dramatic changes throughout life.
