Sammanfattning
Plastic changes in the brain after a stroke include formation of new synapses, changes in the function of existing synapses, cortical reorganization and formation of new brain cells. These processes are stimulated by activity.
The ability to plastic changes in the cortex seems to increase in the period immediately after an injury. Clinical studies have shown that intensive rehabilitation after stroke is better than moderate exercise to regain motor function. The prognosis for full recovery is best if a small part of the network that was responsible for the function is still intact.
