Sammanfattning

This article describes the rationale for the initiation of a development and research project in North Denmark Region in collaboration with international researchers led by Professor Alison Kitson, University of Adelaide, Australia. The international project has assumed a lead position with the object of disseminating an internationally developed conceptual framework for nursing called Fundamentals of Care (FoC). FoC responds to the fact that standards of nursing care worldwide are not always adequate. The conceptual framework is being developed, refined and underpinned going forward by the latest research with a view to modernising and advancing evidence-based nursing. A standard of nursing needed by everyone to a greater or lesser extent when they are afflicted by illness or their health is at risk. The Danish component of the international collaboration is located in Region of North Denmark and represented by Aalborg University Hospital, City of Aalborg, Aalborg University and the nursing degree programme at University College of Northern Denmark. The initiation of the joint research project created demand for a description of Fundamentals of Care in a Danish context, which is provided in the article.
