Sammanfattning

The Vidar Clinic provides anthroposophically inspired integrative care and rehabilitation, primarily for patients with cancer-related illnesses, stress-related illnesses and chronic pain conditions. Health is seen as a complex state of wellness, even at an existential level. Illness and healing cannot be reduced simply to biological parameters. The relationship to medical staff plays an important role in becoming well again. The physical body is considered in its entirety, which is “lived” or experienced and expresses the individual. In addition to conventional treatments, external therapies, art therapy and counseling on the existential level are given. Anthroposophic medicines are used to support self-healing and as a complement to conventional medications. The patient is closely cared for but is also expected to play an active role in the rehabilitation process. The therapies are based upon an expanded view of health, illness and healing and are described in four stages in which the patient’s experiences and symptoms are integrated with quantitative biological parameters. Internationally, anthroposophic medicine is best known within the fields of pediatrics, rehabilitation, mistletoe therapy and the rehabilitation of cancer patients and nursing, not least within hospice care. The Swedish debate about the status of anthroposophic medicines has been intense and has raised the question about the existence of integrative medicine.
