Dental zirconia has rapidly become a popular dental material for fixed dental prostheses. Zirconia has mechanical properties that exceeds all previous dental ceramics. New material development techniques have resulted in zirconias with higher translucency and more tooth-like colors, which reduces the need for aesthetic veneering of the core. There are still uncertainties regarding fractures, chipping of veneering ceramic and aesthetics that remains to be evaluated clinically.
