Sammanfattning
The second national evaluation of the 23 first and second cycle public health programmes in Sweden was carried out in 2011-2012. This is an overview of the degree projects on which the evaluation was based. There are 218 randomly selected project essays, 67 from the bachelor level, 55 from the 60-credit master and 76 from the 120-credit master level. In the Higher Education Agency’s hard-regulated format, no substantive analysis was accepted as to how public health science was reflected in the essays. However the eight of us in the assessment team agreed to broaden the framework. Our in-depth analysis focused on the areas of application chosen by the students, what research designs were applied and how the quality was assessed in relation to the subject, methodology and science faculty area. Of the nine public health application areas found in the papers, health promotion and health determi-nants were most common. Subject content varies greatly between the univer-sities and between different degree levels. Our conclusion is that education in public health sciences has difficulty in combining multi-disciplinarity with the gaining of in-depth knowledge content.
