Att uppmärksamma barn till svårt sjuka patienter på en neurologisk klinik - utvärdering av implementering av rutiner och arbetssätt
Sammanfattning
A new law in Sweden emphasizes children’s right to support if a parent becomes
seriously ill. The aim of this study was to evaluate an implementation of
routines and a family focused approach at a neurological clinic, intending to
support patients and their children. Several types of data were collected from
medical files, staff and patient surveys, showing that in spite of substantial
activities during the implementation, the potential for improvements remained
large. 80% of parents with under-aged children had not been informed about
their children’s right to support and 40% stated not having enough support in
their parenting role. However, there was a clear increase in the rate of healthcare
professionals who were aware of their responsibilities regarding this.
