En dans på torneroser. Pasienters opplevelser av ivaretagelse i et dagkirurgisk forlöp – en kvalitativ undersökelse
Sammanfattning
The purpose of the study was to explore how patients with chronic sinusitis experienced nursing care during an operation performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient surgical ward. The objective was to investigate through semi-structured interviews how 12 patients experienced the surgical intervention. The respondents had a somewhat ambiguous experience of the surgery, and several of them would not have gone through the procedure a second time. In particular, the experience of being awake during the operation was demanding. Experiencing pain, strange and “nasty” sounds, physical force being applied, and the stress of lying completely still were all demanding and disturbing. The quality of nursing care proved crucial in this situation. The study shows that the patients interviewed were generally satisfied with outpatient surgery, which nevertheless tested the limits of their endurance.
